Questions?  Feel free to contact Distance Education at distance_ed@caspercollege.edu

Adding/Removing Students (or Non-editing teachers)

An instructor can manually add a student to a Moodle4Me individual section. This is helpful if a student added the course late in the semester, he/she shows up on the official roster and the LDAP account has already been created, otherwise it may take 24-48 hrs for systems to update.

If you have a metacourse, the participant still has to be added to a specific section (i.e. 01, N1) which in turn "enrolls" the participant in the course. If you do not have access to the individual section, please contact DE at distance_ed@caspercollege.edu.

Please ONLY add students that are listed on the "official" Datatel roster.
  1. Go to the Administration block of the course
  2. Click on the Assign roles link
  3. Click on the Student or Non-editing teacher link
  4. On the left column you will see listed all current participants with the selected role (Full name, CC email)
  5. Enter the student Casper College username in the search box located on the lower right
  6. Click the Search button
  7. On the right column, click on the person's name to select. Multiple users may be selected by holding down the Apple or CRTL key while clicking on the names. If you cannot find a person, either there is a typo in the search box or the account has not yet been created.
  8. Click the Add button (arrow pointing to the left). Removing someone is done by reversing the add process (moving the user from the left column to the right).  If you remove a student, the data remains in the course.  To see the student activity, re-add the student to the course.

Quickmail - Email your Students from Moodle4Me

Quickmail is a new tool that allows you to send emails to the external email account of Moodle4Me users. This tool allows sending only, not receiving.

Quickmail
is helpful when sending materials to the class such as a welcome letter, syllabus, book information, etc. If you do not see the Quickmail block in your course, you can add this block after turning editing on. Starting Fall 2010, the Quickmail block will be standard in all Moodle4Me classes.

Let us know if you have any questions
by sending a message to distance_ed@caspercollege.edu.

Unenrolling from a Moodle4Me Course

If you have course shells you are not using in the current semester, you can remove yourself as the instructor to make your course list more manageable.  This process doe not delete any classes, just removes you access.  Note:  If you remove yourself from individual sections because you are using a metacourse, you will no longer be able to add/remove students.  If you need to be re-added as the instructor, please contact DE.
Steps:
  1. Go the Administrator block within your course
  2. Click on "Unenroll me from this course"
  3. You will be prompted to confirm unenrollment.  Click on Yes to proceed.

Let us know if you have any questions by sending a message to distance_ed@caspercollege.edu.

Unsubscribing from Forums

Forum email messages may be coming to you because you are currently "subscribed" to a discussion forum. This is an option that each course participant can control in forums that have optional subscription activated.

This is a two-step process.
  1. First, in the top right corner of the course main page, find your name and click on it. Next, choose the Edit profile tab. Look at your individual profile to make sure your "Forum auto-subscribe" setting is set to "No ...".
  2. Next, go to the forum from which you are receiving the email messages. In the top right corner of the forum, at the same place where you would see the list of posts made to the forum, look in the top right corner to find the Unsubscribe from this forum link. Click to unsubscribe. Note that this is a toggle, so you can re-subscribe at any time by clicking on the same link to Subscribe to this forum.

If the option to unsubscribe is not available, the forum may be set up to force subscription.  In such a case, you will need to change the setting to "Yes, initially", save, and after you unsubscribe, you can re-apply the force subscription setting.
